Do I need to see a neurologist?
Neurology is the medical specialty that deals with the whole of the body’s nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. If you are suffering from headaches, blackouts, tremor (shaking), weakness, slowness or stiffness of movement, numbness or tingling sensations, burning or stabbing pains in the face or body, dizziness, problems with sleep, or issues with memory, then you may need to see a neurologist.
How can I make an appointment at Metropolitan Neurology?
Face-to-face appointments are available at four locations each week. Information on the earliest available at each location, can be found by contacting us. Information is shown below on the Contact & Referrals page. Availability is updated on a daily basis.
Remote consultations (usually via Zoom) can be also be arranged.
What can I expect from an appointment at Metropolitan Neurology?
Initial appointments can take up to 40-45 minutes.
Dr Weatherall will take a detailed history, including your symptoms, your general health, family history, medication and allergies, work and lifestyle issues, and any previous investigations and treatments.
He will carry out a thorough relevant physical examination. He will then make a diagnosis, or if this is not possible at the first visit, discuss what the possible diagnoses might be. He will let you know whether investigations are required, and arrange these with you in a timely manner.
If treatment can be commenced after the initial visit, he will give you a private prescription for medication, or ask your GP to do (if appropriate). He will provide a written report of your consultation, usually within 3-5 working days (this will be copied to your GP if you wish us to do so and have given us their details).
Follow-up appointments, to discuss results or review the effect of treatment usually last 20-30 minutes. Remote consultations (usually via Zoom) can be also be arranged.
